Every year, like a lot of people, I sit down and make some goals for myself professionally. Some people do it in a more structured manner. I’ve heard of people who actually have a notebook that they write their goals in at the beginning of the year and the entire notebook is dedicated to that year. It will contain their goals that they determine on January 1, additional goals that they determine throughout the year, the brainstorming and notes related to those goals, and also all of their notes and creative thoughts throughout the year.
I think it’s a great process, it’s just not something that works for me and how my mind works. I use a less structured approach. When i compiled my goals for this year back in January and February, I felt that to grow professionally, I needed to push myself out in to the community more in 2013. My plan to do this was to write more blog posts at least monthly, which I am crashing and burning at (I know, beat me up later), and to begin to present at SQL Saturdays.
As for my goal of doing more presenting, I’m off to a great start with that goal. I presented at Jacksonville PASS User Group (@jaxssug) on Wednesday June 19, my session SSRS: On Prem to Azure. This session goes through SQL Server Reporting Services and the differences between the on-premises and cloud deployment, and your options in those areas.
This summer, there are some great training opportunities, and I am honored to have been selected to speak at some of those great events. Below you will find a list of these events and I encourage you to register for them, and stop me and say hi when you are there.
- SQL Saturday #231 – Cocoa Beach, FL on July 27, 2013
- Code On The Beach – Jacksonville Beach, FL on August 16-18, 2013
- SQL Saturday #232 – Orlando, FL on September 14, 2013
I’m looking to speak at more events throughout the year. If you have an event and you are looking for more speakers, please let me know and if I have availability, I would love to speak. I look forward to meeting up with all of you this summer.
